Scope:

African-American Poetry, 1760-1900, is a collection of over 2,500 poems. It provides a survey of African American poetry from the earliest published African American poems to the works of Paul Laurence Dunbar. The bibliographic basis is William French's bibliography, Afro-American Poetry and Drama 1760-1975.

Note: The following three poets, present in William French's bibliography, are not included in the database because of an inability to locate the volumes in question: Francis Boyd, A. J. Jackson, and Joseph Thomas Wilson.

This collection is restricted to use by the VIVA Community via license from Chadwyck-Healey/Pro-Quest Information and Learning.
